Write an equation in the form y = mx + b for the line which contains the points (6, -8) and (-2, -12).

OpenStudy (akashdeepdeb):

If the line contains those points. You can find the slope by using the formula for the slope of a line = \[m = \frac{rise}{run} = \frac{y - y_1}{x-x_1}\] Now as you have the slope, you can use the point-slope form of a line to find the line equation! Because you just found the slope and you are already given one point. After find that equation, take y to the RHS, you'll have the required equation. :)
