I know college costs a lot, and many people need to have a part time job while attending college in order to pay for it.

Perf. idea. I like that idea more than mines.
Additionally, college may be a challenge to pay for maybe because they couldn't earn the grant they thought they could get. It's hard to pay for college having a part time job as well, because sometimes part-time jobs just doesn't cut the expenses.

Yeah, that's a good start, but I think the sentences need to be more complex. Like maybe:

College may be a challenge for some to pay for if they didn't earn the grant they thought they'd get. Another challenge arises when a part-time job doesn't cut the expenses.
