A common method used to separate liquid solutions is _____. filtering separation by density fractional distillation crystallization

OpenStudy (shiraz14):

... distillation

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

@shiraz14 distillationn is wrong it says liquids in a solution not a mixture of liquids... you can't separate a solution of liquids using any form of distillation

OpenStudy (shiraz14):

Fractional distillation is often used to separate components of liquids based on their boiling points, irregardless of their miscibility. The separating funnel is used to separate 2 immiscible liquids based on their density. And there is no such thing as a solution of liquids - solutions are composed of solutes (solids) dissolved in a solvent - when 2 liquids are mixed, which would you regard to be the solute & which would be the solvent?

thanks

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

@shiraz14 i stand corrected :P thanks for the clarification though and i know that there is no such thing as a liquid solution dont what i meant is a liquid dissolved into a liquid so i thought you couldnt separate them by distillation

OpenStudy (shiraz14):

@JReed231 & @sweetburger : No probs. Bye for now.
