Did the Cold War promote or hinder social reform in the United States?
what is your opinion on this, and why.?

The Cold War lead the U.S. into an expensive and dangerous arms race and created massive stockpiles of nuclear weapons. It lead to the creation of many overseas military bases and the deployment of U.S. forces around the globe at a tremendous cost to the U.S. taxpayers and drained resources which could have been used toward aliviating domestic problems. It almost lead to nuclear war in 1961 over Soviet missles in Cuba, the division of Germany, the Berlin Wall and created the Iron Curtain.
