Where's the problem?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Hi, let me post the question @Idealist

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Gordon is evaluating some stocks he wants to purchase. You can see the function of the stock price below. The variable x represents days. Stock A B C Price f(x) = 25(1.08)x x f(x) 0 22.00 1 21.56 2 21.13 The initial price of this stock is $30, but it has been increasing 4% each day.

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Gordon wants to fully understand what kind of changes could affect the money he is investing. Using complete sentences, explain the effect of the following transformations. Graph them and f(x) on the same coordinate plane. f(x + 2) f(–x) f(x) + 3

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

You think you can help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a) f(x+2)---> It's shifting to the left b) f(-x)--->reflecting c) f(x)+3---> It's shifting up by 3 That's all I know. Sorry that I couldn't fully help you.

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Hmm, thanks anyway!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YW!

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

If you could, do you think you could help me how to graph?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

@Hero please help

hero (hero):

Okay...

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Hi can you help on my Function?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

I know this... a) f(x+2)---> It's shifting to the left b) f(-x)--->reflecting c) f(x)+3---> It's shifting up by 3

hero (hero):

This is the best I can do for you: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/k4qip3yfo4

hero (hero):

Try to understand what is happening

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Thank you! But could you also tell me what to do with the data!

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Do I simply show the graph? I also need the changes in sentences!

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

@Hero I dont need the answer, just help me get it :)

hero (hero):

Here's a better graph https://www.desmos.com/calculator/1uy4yz7qre

hero (hero):

You describe each change in terms of f(x)

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

But why does the data change like that?

hero (hero):

It hasn't changed. The only thing that has happened is that I manipulated the window settings so that you can see the graphs better.

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

No I mean what does the data show?

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

The red graph is price?

hero (hero):

The red graph represents f(x). When the red graph is flipped over the y axis, it becomes the green graph or f(-x). When the red graph is shifted two units west, it becomes the blue graph of f(x + 2). When the red graph is shifted three units north, it becomes the purple graph or f(x) + 3.

hero (hero):

Yes, the red graph is f(x)

OpenStudy (henrietepurina):

Ok so umm... thank you bud, hope to see you around soon! BYE!

hero (hero):

You're welcome.
