I'd go with the simplest answer, (A) that they hold a lot of information, though how much is "a lot" is pretty relative. The other answers are just off. Unless it's a CD-RW, once a CD-ROM is burned it stays burned with whatever was put on it. The only way to erase it is to physically destroy the backing or the entire disk. DVDs (not counting the double layer ones) can hold up to 4.7 GB. CD-ROMs can hold between 650 MB and 700 MB max. Finally, unless it's a CD-R/RW, you can't just pop in any CD-ROM and save data to it.
