Why is spot training a myth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Spot training" is where we try to lose weight in specific parts of our bodies, by only exercising those specific parts. It doesn't work, because we can't control where we will lose fat, when we exercise. Our bodies decide where we will burn fat. For example, when we do sit-ups, we can make our abs stronger, but that's not going to burn fat only from our stomach. Our bodies burn fat for energy, so that we can do the things that we do. And that fat could be burned anywhere, no matter what we're doing.
