With what?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

First it is important to see that x = -3 is a vertical line at x = -3 |dw:1399416244574:dw| Since the point will be reflected across that line..we will end up over here: |dw:1399416294233:dw| Notice right away that the 'y' value does not change since it is just going father ro the left of the graph...not up or down

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

So if before...the coordinate of U is (-1, -3) We know that -3 in the y-coordinate will be the same no matter what..so we have U' = (? , -3) How do we figure out the new x-coordinate?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well...since we are reflecting across the line x = -3 And the original point was at x = -1 that is a 2 space difference... After a reflection, it will still be the same distance from the line...2 spaces...but in this case...farther to the left.. So if we start at x = -1 flip it over x = -3 we end up 2 more spaces away from -3... x = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Right... so the new coordinate will be (-5 , -3)
