How did the u.s respond to the outbreak of wwii

The United States pretty much stayed out of it for most of the war. It was when Pearl Harbor was bombed that we entered the war.

The United States wanted to stay out of it because of many reasons, one of many is that there was no real reason why they should have gotten into WW1 and that they were fooled into it -this in turn created the two different neutrality acts-but reasons including Pearl Harbor was, what got them into it again.
