Tell whether the two ratios form a proportion. Explain. 3/1 and 24/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you simplify them, that is how you can tell if they form a proportion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you get when you reduce 24/8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would read it as 3 is to 1 as 24 is to 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So 3 is 3 times 1 just as 24 is 3 times 8

i still don't understand

hero (hero):

Proportions occur when two fractions are equal to each other. Set \[\frac{3}{1} = \frac{24}{8}\] Then cross multiply. If both sides equal, then the fractions are proportional two each other.
