I will medal and fan!!! You have $5 for lunch. You bought a turkey sandwich for $2.25. Write and solve an inequality to show how much more you can spend.\ Please help I dont get it!!!:[

OpenStudy (uh60blackhawk):

is this a multiple choice question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Well, if you were just thinking about this in real life, how much money do you have left after buying the turkey sandwich?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You would have $2.75 left

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

good, so the question is how much MORE can you spend, in other words, of course you don't have to spend ALL of the $2.75... you can spend less than $2.75 if you want

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

in fact, you can spend less than or equal to $2.75

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

so that answers the question, do you have any questions about the reason? We still have to do the equation next.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

Actually scratch that, that won't work! :)

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

We should write this: Turkey + money left to spend <= $5

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

but replace turkey with the actual value $2.25 leaving us with: 2.25 + money left to spend <= 5

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

or if you prefer, 2.25 + x <= 5 the symbol you choose doesn't have to be an 'x' that's just the usual choice. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

our equation works since we can solve for x and get the 2.75 like we should. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx again

OpenStudy (jtvatsim):

np
