OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

Hey plz can some1 help me find the slant height, height, and area face (area of face i guess) of an octahedron?? Please its urgent really urgent

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

@mathslover

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

@nikato do you know this?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

It has an edge of 6.8

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

oh and i need base area too :/

mathslover (mathslover):

Elisa - Please refer to this link - http://www.math.ubc.ca/~cass/courses/m308/projects/cchang/webpages/octahedron.html

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

i couldnt really comprehend it, but if you cant help me with this can you clarify an answer for me? i did base area for a regular tetrahedron with an edge of 10.4 and then i ended up getting 27.04sqrt3

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

some1 else helped me but i doubt that answer...

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're working on octahedron or tetrahedron ? which question you're stuck at ?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

Most importantly i need the octahedron stuff which is slant height, base area, height, and area of face , and it has an edge of 6.8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

total Area of octahedron = \(\large 2 \sqrt{3}~ s^2\) \(\large s = 6.8\)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

since an octahedron has 8 faces, dividing the total Area by 8 gives you `area of a single face`

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

i got 20.02

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

should be right if your calculation is correct

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

^thats the area of one face

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

yeap and how do i get slant height, or height, or base area now ? :)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

` slant height, base area, height` can you define these ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

tbh, idk what they refer to... if you can tell me what they're we can find htem

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that edge is a side of length 6.8, can u show me what `slant height` and `height` are on the figure ?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

|dw:1399445666824:dw| i think im not sure about the slant height

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

easy : slant height = height of equilateral triangle of side 6.8
