ok so X + Y = 4000 as she invested $4000

and 0.1X + 0.06Y = 300 as she made $300 profit

so rearrange X + Y = 4000
Y = 4000 - X

now sub this into the other equation
0.1X + 0.06Y = 300
0.1X + 0.06(4000 - X) = 300
0.1X + 240 - 0.06X) = 300
0.04X = 60
X = 60 / 0.04 = 1500

so if X + Y = 4000
and X = 1500
then Y = 2500
