which pronoun correctly completes the sentence? I will leave with _____ is ready to go home. a.whoever b. whomever

http://www.grammarbook.com/grammar/whoever.asp Going from the first rule one this website, I would go with A. whoever. If you rewrite the sentence it would be: I will leave with him. He is ready to go home. Or something similar. If, when rewritten, the sentence produced has him and he, it will be whoever. If it has him and him it will be whomever.
