Question with Fractions! The distance from Joan's house to the park was 3/4 of a mile. She walked 2/3 of the way before she stopped for a drink. How far has she walked?
First you have to find the common denominator... Which is 12.. So now the fractions are this: 2 4 8 - x - = - 3 4 12 3 3 9 - x - = - 4 3 12 Now what we do is subtract the fractions.... 9 8 1 - - - = - 12 12 12 Since she has 1/12 more of the walk left... We have to subtract 1/12 by 12/12 to find how much she has walked... 12 1 11 - - - = - 12 12 12 So 11/12 is your answer ;*
Oh wow! Thank for for explaining it too! Very helpful!
