how do i find the mean of something?
To calculate the mean of anything, all you do is add up the values of everything, and divide by how many things you added up, so for example, lets say you have the set of data 10,20,30 the mean of these numbers would be\[\frac{ 10+20+30 }{ 3 }=\frac{ 60 }{ 3 }=20\]that means that for that set of numbers, the mean, or the average, is 20 Does that help clarify things for you?
oh yes thanks you very much
how about the range? it says a math test of students were 85, 92, 67, 81, 90, 76, 94, 85, 56, and 79...what is the range of the scores?
So the range of a set of data can be calculated by taking the maximum number, the greatest number in the set, and subtracting the minimum, the smallest number in the set, so the best way to do that is to order the numbers from least to greatest, and subtract the first number from the last\[Max-Min=Range\]
I see, that makes sense
could you help me with this?
My first advice for you, is to take the set of numbers that the first table has, and write them somewhere in order from least to greatest, that'll help you on the first half of the page for the Test Scores, frequency just means how many times that result happens, so for instance if 5 occurs with frequency of 10, that means that in your set of date, you would see the number 5 ten different times. Percents are found by taking the amount of results you have that meet a certain criteria, and dividing it by the total amount of results you have, so for test scores, you have a total of 40 scores, so divide the frequency by 40 to get the percentage.
what do you mean frequency?
Let me explain, so frequency is how many times you see a specific result, or see a specific range of results, an example set of data\[1,2,2,2,3,3,4,5,6\]The frequency for lets say, the number 2, the number 2 appears three times, so it has a frequency of three, the number 5 only appears once, so it has a frequency of 1. Essentially, the "tally" that your teacher is asking for is the same thing as a frequency.
ok i think i get it
