Circular cones A and B are congruent. If the area of the base of cone B is 16π in2, then the volume of cone A is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

the equation for volume of a cone is \[V=\pi r^2 \frac{ h }{ 3 }\]

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

formula for base area is \[\pi r^2\]

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

going by this we can tell that the radius is 16. the picture shows that all the way across is x which is 2 times the radius. so 16*2=32. the picture also says that the height is x+2.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

following me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

ok so with that information what would the height be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

18

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

no x is 32 because the diameter is x not the radius and the radius is half of the diameter

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I give up

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

h is going to be 34 since x is 32
