If light travels from oil (slower medium) to water (faster medium) at an angle, what happens to the direction of the light ray in water with respect to normal?

When the speed increases the light bends away from the normal, as long as the angle of incidence is less than the critical angle. Beyond the critical angle total internal reflection will occur.
