i'm not sure how to say this, since i'm not familiar with the terminology, but while working on IDLE i realized my = sign is not working as a function or command. any one knows how to go about this? thank you.

A single equal sign is an assignment operator. A double equal sign is a comparison operator. AFAIK, an equal sign is never a function or a command in Python.
