Martin Luther didn't want to break away and create the Protestant Reformation, he wanted to bring to light the corruption and vice that he saw eating away at the Church through some of its members. Unfortunately for Luther, the Church didn't see it that way and moved to excommunicate him and condemn the Reformation.
