What is the value of x rounded to the nearest hundredth?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
First of all tell me what you got here? Tangent,Sin or Cosine?
OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):
o.o ummmm tangent ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
mm great!.Now you got tangent 49=x/55 right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because remember you're not looking for the angle this time, you're looking to a side.So it will be 49=x/55
x is the opposite and 55 the adjacent

I talked to you before and you took so long to answer just press where it says tan and put 49
OpenStudy (gabylovesyou):
-3.17 etc..

Angle, side adjacent to angle...and want the opposite side....= tangent
\[\large \tan\theta = \frac{Opposite}{Adjacent}\]
\[\large \tan(49^{\circ}) = \frac{x}{55}\]
\[\large x = \tan(49^{\circ}) \times 55\]
@Gabylovesyou Make sure that your calculator in in "degree" mode...if you are getting -3.17 for your answer of tan(49) you are actually in "Radians" mode :)
