Ghana was the first trading kingdom in the 700 AD in west Africa, famous for salt and gold trade. Not only that, Ghana's kingdom had a strong military.

Ghana was and still is in the North-West of Africa. Ghana was a powerful Kingdom The Kingdom of Ghana existed from approximately 750 C.E. to 1076 C.E. in modern day southeastern Mauritania, Western Mali, and Eastern Senegal. It was an important center of trade in that part of Africa. The modern country of Ghana took it's name from that ancient kingdom.
