just focus on the lemon content

0.5 V = 3 = x + 0.4 (6-x)   x = quarts of 100% lemon juice

3 = x + 2.4 - 0.4 x 
3 = 0.6 x + 2.4

0.6 = .6 x
x = 1

check  1 + 0.4(5) = 3 qts lemon in 6 qts total thus 50% lemon
