Hey... this is a real problem i dont know where else to ask, so please helm me if you can... My external hard disk is not being read by my pc (or any other pc). The light on the SATA cable is off, but the hd's fan is running. The hd gets power from the pc, but the pc fails to detect the hd. It was working fine for a few months, then it was dropped, and since then this problem has occoured. If anyone has any idea please share. P.S. The gives out beeping sounds from time to time

your disk must have gotten damaged by the drop, sometimes disks get damaged through wear and tear by using them over and over again. Your best option is to try different cables, see if that will help the PC to recognize it, or try another PC. Once you can read it, copy everything out into a new disk and throw this one away. HTH
