OpenStudy (anonymous):

The transformation of a plant cell is successful if the foreign DNA is integrated into 1 of the cell's chromosomes. It is stated that in biology transformation is genetic alteration of a cell that results from the uptake, incorporation, and the expression of exogenous genetic material from its surroundings. It is then taken up through the cell membrane. Transformation also occurs naturally in some species of certain bacteria. In order for transformation to happen, the bacteria must be in a state of competence.
