How did the United States manage to expand its territory across the continent?
i have too eat be back to answer that
ok thanks friend!
Between 1781 and 1800 the US expanded its territory to the pacific ocean? False . How did the US expand and strengthen its control of territory in North America ... by buying land from other countries on the north American continent -or wining
The US pretty much had claim on every thing East of the Mississippi at it's creation. It took some convincing of the Indians who lived there, but it was pretty much a done deal. Napoleon got bored of American claims and sold out to Jefferson so he could have more money to conquer all of Europe. Mexico helped out by declaring independence from Spain. Spain eventually figured out the Florida wasn't worth keeping. Cultural Mexico extended to about 100 miles north of Mexico City. So governing the north was problematic. They invited Americans to settle Texas. Maybe provide a buffer zone between the US and cultural Mexico. But the rude foreigners insisted on bringing their illeagal slaves and didn't convert to Catholicism like they promised. The former Americans even attacked Federal Mexican troops and declared themselves independent. Mexico and Texas never quite settle on a mutual border. So when Texas gave up on independence and asked to join the US, the problem transfered to the US too. President Polk was excited to get some Pacific beach property. He saw that a lot of Americans had become illeagal aliens in the British owned owned Oregon. The Brits were tired of doing the war thing with America so they drew a line and said "North is Canada, South is American. Then more people headed to the Willimette Valley, Some took an arrow to the knee. Meanwhile back to norther Mexico. Some American soldiers were playng hide and seek with some Mexican soldiers along the supposed border between the US and Mexico. Shots were fired and President Polk saw a good reason to invade our southern neighbor. The Marines got a chance to add "The halls of Montezuma" to their song. And Mexico got rid of it's northern territories. That's pretty much how we got from sea to shining sea. Later we bought Alaska from the Russians and toppled the Kingdom of Hawaii along with some other stuff. But that part isn't really part of your question.
How and why did President Polk gain control over Texas?
The bill was signed by United States President Polk on December 29, 1845, ... require Texas: "If we are cooped up on the north, we must have elbow room to the west ... in 1821, the United States did not contest the new republic's claims to Texas, ... Mexican authorities, perceiving that they were losing control over Texas
The texans couldn't run a country, They went bankrupt and asked the US to annex them.President Polk was happy to oblige and southerners liked the idea of getting more land to grow cotton and get some slave state senators.
thank you both.
