Seth is roasting a pig. Seth's rule is that a pig should be in the oven 2 hours for every 10 pounds of its weight. He's leaving this pig in the oven for 23 hours. If w is the weight of the pig. how do you write and solve the equation?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

I'd write an equation of proportions. In this problem we're given 2 different lengths of time (2 hours and 23 hours), but only 1 weight (10 lb). write a ratio of the lengths of time:\[\frac{ 2~hr }{ 23~hr }=\frac{ 10~lb }{ w }\]

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Cross multiply this equation, which will eliminate the fractions. Solve the resulting equation for w.

thank you got it!!

so glad for you!
