X^2 + 13X + 30 = 0

Since a = 1, you need only concern yourself with b = 13 & c = 30.

30 has several factors:

1*30 = 30, 2*15 = 30, 3*10 = 30, & 6*5 = 30.

But, only 3 + 10 = 13

So we have:

(X + 3)(X + 10) = 0

Either X + 3 = 0

We subtract 3 from both sides of the equation. We get: X + 3 -- 3 = 0 -- 3

Simplifying yields:

X = -- 3

OR X + 10 = 0

We subtract 10 from both sides of the equation. We get:

X + 10 -- 10 = 0 -- 10

Simplifying yields:

X = -- 10

Therefore, X = -- 3 or -- 10.
