Why is oxygen important for all body cells?

Oxygen is necessary for the electron transport chain that is part of the respiratory cycle of the cell. Cells also need oxygen to produce energy necessary for life.

OpenStudy (deepika.comet):

For RESPIRATION - which occurs in mitochondria. and that leads to the release of energy in the form of ATP - will be used by the cell mRNA to produce proteins which build up the cell and make them be alive.
