Quadratic Equation Question?
Ken wants to build a table and put a border around it. The tabel and border must have an area of 3,276 square feet. The table is 36 inches wide and 72 inches long without the boarder. Which quadratic equation can be used to determine the thickness of the border, x?
well, right of the bat you know that you have to use the formula of area somehow, because they give you area
the total area is 3276, and that's the area of the table and the border. So you can set (36+x)^2 * (72 + x)^2 = 3276
you can try simplifying it, and subtract the 3276 to the other side to get ax^2 + bx + c = 0, and that's your answer :)
check the units area with border in feet is too big.
