Basically when you're given an equation like this and asked to solve it you are basically being asked to workout the value of the pronumeral (letter in this case x)

In other words, you're being asked to "isolate x," which means that you write an equation for x: x = a.
If 3x=8x+1, subtract 8x from both sides of your equation. What do you get?
You're not done yet; you have to solve for POSITIVE x.
