Static equilibrium crane question attached in comments thanks...im aware of the processes used to answer this question: moments and sum of all forces in x and y directions....really need help with the answer as cant get it right
Perhaps you'd like to show some of your reasoning and workings here so you can be helped to see where the problems are.... Start by drawing a framework based on the drawing, and show the forces acting at each node.
This is quite tricky I think My diagram makes a few assumptions - so feel free to ignore it Note that HGI is a straight line Also EK and KI are equal and can be derived from (a/sin30) I think ABC & J are irrelevant to E (essentially a fixed foundation) so the free body diagram for E looks like: |dw:1400008553341:dw| Apart from the reaction forces at E only weight at H and tension at K act around E. SO take moments to solve for KJ tension Then resolve KJ and solve reaction forces. Assumptions are: Mechanical structure is 'Light' (i.e. components have no mass) ED can be considered as a beam (In truth some of the stress in CD would NOT pass through E) That's my shot at it. Hope it helps
