Are you able to define the words "inconsisient," "dependent" and "independent" as they apply to systems of linear equations? If not, it'd be a good idea to look up those words before we proceed. Do your course materials include definitions and examples?

Your system of linear equations is

y=3x-7
y-3x=5

Note how the first equation has already been solved for y, and that the second has not.
I'd suggest that you solve the 2nd equation for y first.

Then compare the two equations.

Does this give you any clue regarding the type of system you have here: dependent, independent, inconsistent?
