why did The U.S. become involved in Vietnam’s conflict

It goes back to the theory of the domino effect that the US used to justify aiding friendly regimes -- if one nation in an area turns communist, so will its neighbors, each falling like dominoes. The US aided South Vietnam against the North because they were afraid that if it fell, Southeast Asia would all fall to communism.
