Solve -5 + 4x = 29

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Why not add 5 to both sides of this equation? Then what, to isolate x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so add both sides than solve for x? which i after i add i divide right?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Lola, I'd suggest that you just go ahead and follow my suggestions first. Then we can discuss the "whys" of this matter.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay :)well i got -5+4x=49 +5 +5 cross h\out the both 5's than i added 49 +5=54 than what?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

This is correct. You end up with 4x =54. Your next job is to isolate that x. To do this, you need only divide both sides of this equation by 4 and reduce the resulting right side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so 4x=54 4x 4 cross out the both 4's so 54/4= 13.5 right :)?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Yes! or x= (27/2). Same thing. Your choice.

omg :)! thanks for your help :) im getting this :)
