Why is a series circuit NOT a good way to wire a house?

is it because a series circuit is all on one line i guess you would say so if i turn off one light all the lights go off?

Yes. That is one main reason. Another reasoning could be that different devices require different current. In a series circuit current through all devices is same. This can cause problems.
