so f(x) is same as y, just another way to say f(x)
if y varies directly with x, that means \(y = kx\), where k is some constants
So we were given that y = -2 when x = 8, we need to find k.
geerky42 (geerky42):
oh... well sorry then lol...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok i dived right?
geerky42 (geerky42):
well, yeah. divide x.
geerky42 (geerky42):
so you get \(\dfrac{y}{x} = k\)

-2/8=-0.25
geerky42 (geerky42):
yep, so k = -0.25
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so for b how do i work it
geerky42 (geerky42):
now we know k, just write equation
OpenStudy (anonymous):
wait

geerky42 (geerky42):
y = kx
OpenStudy (anonymous):
-2=-0.25*8
geerky42 (geerky42):
no, not that, just equation but this time, we now know what k is
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok so y=kx
geerky42 (geerky42):
yeah, but what is k?

-0.25
geerky42 (geerky42):
yep, so y = ...?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y=-0.25x
geerky42 (geerky42):
yep, that it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so for c
how do i do that

geerky42 (geerky42):
now we have equation y=-0.25x.
since in part c, we were given that x = -4
now plug in that value in equation, then solve for y ( aka f(x) ).
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y=-0.25*-4 y=1
geerky42 (geerky42):
yep
geerky42 (geerky42):
1 is answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
d= -16?
