A 6.0 m section of wire carries a current of 5.2 A from east to west in the earth's magnetic field of 1.0 × 105 T at a location where the magnetic field points south. In which direction does the magnetic force act on the wire?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Magnetic force on a length of current carrying conductor is given by iL x B or iLBsin theta Use right hand thumb rule to find the direction of of iL x B.Here current vector is along east west direction while magnetic field is from north to south. Magnetic force is out of the plane of paper and towards you.
