Solve by graphing. x^2 +2x - 8 = 0

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

Do you know how to factor it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no can you show me

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

Do you have to graph it and find the roots?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

Okay...to find the roots let's begin...it's kind of complicated to explain but i'll try :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

First if we look at the function we only see 3 things (pretend the 0 isn't there) The three "things" are x^2, 2x and -8....We have to make it into 4 things because you can't factor out 3 things...

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

Then let's start!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (pinksapphire):

So first you have to multiply x^2 and -8 and you will get -8x^2...now what numbers can you multiply to get 8?|dw:1400114083191:dw|
