If the length of one side of a square is 4x-3, find the area in terms of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they really stretch for these word problems don't they? what they want is for you to compute \[(4x-3)^2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We computed that \[16x^{2}-24x+9\] but what does that tell us?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Using the quadratic formula x will = 0.75 and when you plug that back into the original 4x-3 will equal 0 and 0 X 0 = 0 so is this unsolvable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The problem wasn't an inequality. Obviously if you set the equation equal to 0, solve it, and then plug the values back in, you will always get 0.

So must I say x is something greater than 0.75?
