My opinion: Islamic art, was not always tied to God, but rather it depicted human beauty, unlike Christian art which was mostly scenes from the Bible painted.
OpenStudy (wwhitlock):
Islamic art eschews depicting humans and animals. That's why calligraphy and other decorative arts are so prevalent.
