How are figures written in scientific notation similar to polynomials?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Polynomials by definition consist of several terms. For scientific notation, you are taking one term, e.g., 10,000, and turning it into two terms, e.g., 10,000 = \(1\times 10^4\).
