You need to find the discriminate of y=ax^2+bx+c which is b^2-4ac. Lets call the output D.. If D is positive then you have two intersections. If D is negative then you have none. If D is zero then you have one.

put y=0 and find the discriminant ,if \[Disc > 0 then ~the ~graph` cuts~ or~ meets y~axis~at~two~points\] if Disc.=0 ,cuts only at one point. if Disc<0,do not cut.
