Uh, you're not going to copy this. But since this is about that era: Johnson, although hated the southern Elites, was a racist. His pardons restored many of the old leadership in the Confederacy back to their positions. While in Congress, there were many Radical Republicans, whom wanted to have the states ratify the amendments in order for them to rejoin, as well as JOhnson not having NEARLY the amount of importance as Lincoln did, made it important to see which direction the country was going into with the reconstruction, because the president would've made a huge difference.
