what do you understand by black body radiation?how classical physics fail to explain black body radiation?huge test tomorrow :3
black body radiation i think is the radiate form of energy from sum radioactive material..
Classical physics fails in that it doesn't take into account that energy is quantized, i.e. it comes in discreet packets at the quantum level. Blackbody radiation theory was in big trouble because it predicted that a blackbody would give off increasingly higher energy as the wavelength of light given off got shorter, meaning that a blackbody would give off infinite energy. This was called the UV Catastophe. It was Max Planck who solved this when he remembered that electron transitions gave off specific wavelengths and he then extended that idea to say that all energy is quantized. Here's some further reading on the matter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet_catastrophe
thanks for your Great answer..it helped a lott. <3
You're welcome.
Specifially here's the energy definition that Planck came up with:\[E=h \nu \]where E is energy; h is Planck's constant; and ν is the frequency of light. This equation and Planck's realization where 2 of the 3 or 4 driving factors behind the development of quantum physics.
And as we know, quantum physics turned physics on its ear.
thnx..PsisSquared..
