OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

Please i really need the help. What is the best ESTIMATE of the length of the bike path from D to B in miles? f. 2.4 miles g. 2.9 miles h. 3.7 miles i. 4.0 miles

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

if the measures on the triangle appear blurry they are 3.17 and 1.85

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

1) It is a silly question. The "Best" estimate is any estimate that is useful. 2) Do you know that all three triangles so overlapped are similar? 3) It is trivially calculated exactly. Why are we bothering with an estimate?

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

Idk thats the question and idk how to solve it

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Make an estimate and argue it. That's what estimates are about.

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

Ok well, if it wasnt an estimate how would you do it?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Calculate \(\sqrt{3.17\cdot 1.85}\)

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

what formula is that?

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It's just some ratios based on the fact that the triangles are similar.

OpenStudy (elisaneedshelp):

so then it be 2.4

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Not much by way of an estimate. Maybe a simple average would be a decent estimate? (3.17 + 1.85)/2 = 2.51

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the formula is \[\frac{ 3.17}{ x } \frac{ x }{ 1.85 }\]
