A hasty generalisation is when you reach a general conclusion based on insufficient evidence. Basically, it usually means that person's thinking pattern works like this: X is true for A X is true for B X is true for C therefore, X must be true for D, E, F, etc. "The elderly are often resistant to advances in technology" is a hasty generalisation because they may have surveyed a few elderly people, but not all may actually be resistant towards technology. For instance, my maths teacher LOVES her new smartboard!
