Is music forbidden in Islam?

Not my religion class homework, just interested to know.

There's a music genre in Islam, called Anasheed. It's clean music. So any music that gives a good message and avoids sex, drugs, and money greed is ok :-)

So, music is not forbidden. It was practiced or done in Islam long ago. !400 years ago.
