Two cones are similar with a ratio of 2:7. What is the ratio of the two lateral areas?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is 2:7 the ratio of the cones' volumes or any other dimension, like the slant height or base radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

All it says is that 2:7 is it's similarity ratio. Does that kind of answer your question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the ratio of the two lateral areas is equal to the square of 2:7 that is 4 : 49

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So it is the same as what the surface area ratio would be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes ratio of area is always the square of the similarity ratio, which is the ratio of side lengths. This is for lateral as well as total surface area.

yup
