What are the similarities between a sodium atoms and a sodium ion

An atom of sodium is a neutral entity, it has an equal number of proton and electrons (11) while an ion has less electron, Na+ is made of 11 protons plus 10 electrons and a number of neutrons (depending on which isotope it's about).
